Who Is Alana Roy?
I am a Counsellor, Mental Health Social Worker and Provisional Psychologist (on track to becoming fully registered later in 2016.) I am also a mother, wife, traveller, and researcher.
After 8 years working in settings such as sexual assault, domestic violence, suicide prevention, schools, disability and the Deaf, Blind and Deafblind services sector I set up my private practice, The Signs of Life, in 2014. When brainstorming words to describe the values I strive to bring to my work I decided on:
Listen, Support, Connect, Give, Learn.
I believe if we listen to and support one and other, give of ourselves, connect with others and find new ways to learn we can form meaningful relationships and improve our mental health and wellbeing.
I am driven by advocating for what I believe in and have presented research findings at conferences both in Australia and internationally. I am also a sessional teacher at universities and provide social work supervision. For more information on volunteer work I’ve been involved in, my supervision work and my presentations check out my Community pages.
