Psychological Assessments

Dr Alana (Lani) Roy offers the following psychological assessments for children, youth and adults who are hard of hearing (HOH), Deaf, or have a disability. Lani is sensitive in the delivery and dissemination of the test result findings and works collaboratively with clients so that they understand their symptoms and diagnosis. Lani supports clients to face any stigma or shame that comes with a diagnosis with the goal of developing skills to be able to thrive and experience well-being in life regardless of the barriers of disability and mental illness.

Mental Health and Personality Assessments

Personality Tests

Personality tests are formal psychological tests that measure aspects of a person’s personality or measure personality variables. Some examples of the personality tests used are:

  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)
  • The Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory – Fourth Edition (MCMI-IV)
  • Personality and Preference Inventory (PAPI)

Bio-Psycho-Social-Cultural and Spiritual Assessments

These assessments are informed by theories from both Psychology and Social Work, for example: attachment theory, multidimensional theory anti-oppressive theory and ecological systems theory. Additionally, they are informed by a person-centred, strengths-based and transpersonal approach that priorities post-traumatic growth.

CBD And THC Assessments

CBD is an appealing option for those seeking relief from conditions such as generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder, without the mind-altering effects of cannabis and often with fewer side effects than antidepressant medication.

CBD is one of more than 100 chemical compounds called cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD helps to regulate the nervous system, and unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), is not psychoactive. THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis. It causes the sensation of getting high. All cannabinoids work by attaching to certain receptors belonging to the endocannabinoid system, and when administered in low doses, CBD and THC can help manage anxiety disorders.
