Placements: Helping Prepare Students For The Future
Dr Alana (Lani) Roy provides undergraduate and master’s students of social work, biomedicine, and psychology with the chance to integrate their theory with practice in a placement that focuses on research and direct practice giving students a chance to work deeply within the psycho-social-cultural-political and spiritual domains.
In providing a space to learn practical skills, Lani hopes to contribute to a generation of practitioners who are knowledgeable in a range of theories including; emotion-focused, internal family systems, compassionate focused and trauma-informed therapies, anti-oppressive and empowerment perspective, feminist critical theory, cognitive behavioural, EMDR, psychoeducation, mindfulness, meditation, sound sessions, psychedelic preparation and integration support services.
During placement with Lani students will undertake research tasks relating to psychedelic psychotherapy, NDIS funding and support, contemporary community discussions, and liaise with the leading organisations in the field that Lani works with, including:
PRISM- a charity, established to initiate, coordinate, and support formal research into the applications of medicinal psychedelics and related technologies. PRISM provides scientific expertise for clinical trials and technology development for medicinal psychedelics and consciousness research. PRISM values scientific expertise, clinical research, knowledge sharing, and cultivating connection. Entheogenesis Australis- a charitable, educational organisation, providing opportunities for critical thinking and knowledge sharing on ethnobotanical plants, fungi, nature and sustainability. Through their conferences and workshops, they aim to celebrate the culture, science, art, politics and community around medicine plants. Eligibility:
To be eligible for placement with Lani you must be studying psychology, biomedicine, or social work at an undergraduate or master’s level, within an accredited course. These courses require students to perform a number of hours of work experience as part of the course requirement, (or sometimes students simply want to gain further experience and volunteer through an internship). Lani welcomes enquiries from both students and course coordinators.
Applying:
All students undertaking a placement with Lani must also have or be willing to get a volunteer Working with Children’s Check and Police Check at the commencement of the placement.
