Alana and I completed an awareness tour in February 2012 of Kamithipura- Asia’s largest red light area. During this time Alana spoke with outreach workers, trafficking victims, disadvantaged children and NGO leaders to understand the dire situation these women and children face in the sex industry. Alana was organised, confident and respectful in her approach with the women. Despite the language barrier, she was able to create a rapport with the women and children than created an open and safe environment for the women to share their experiences. This enlightening experience enabled Alana to begin advocacy work in Australia- with the culmination project to occur in November 2012 with a large fundraising campaign.
I have known Alana in both a personal and professional capacity. She is, at all times, professional, committed and passionate about social justice. Alana’s a remarkable young woman that uses her charm and authenticity to successfully influence her network to be as motivated as she is about her causes of interest. Alana has a strong understanding of Blind & Deaf trauma and would be a good candidate to represent this cohort group globally.
